Governor hails nation’s first global warming car and
trade auction a success ALBANY - Governor
David Paterson Monday heralded the first auction for the Regional
Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) as a success, setting an example for
other states and the nation to follow. Governor Paterson opened the
nation’s first-ever auction of carbon dioxide allowances when he and New
Jersey Governor Jon Corzine rang the ceremonial bell at the New York
Mercantile Exchange in Manhattan, launching the nation’s most serious
initiative yet to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. All of the 12.6
million allowances offered on September 25th were sold at a clearing
price of $3.07 per allowance, generating nearly $40 million of funding
for investment in energy efficiency, clean and renewable energy

proposed incentive zoning amendments to the Town of Italy’s
comprehensive plan that would make way for wind energy development.
Incentive zoning refers to designated areas in the town where wind

Rochester Public Library is hosting a presentation by the American Red
Cross, Greater Rochester Chapter, on Saturday, November 8th, 1:00-2:30
pm. The program will be held at the Highland Branch Library located at

“Preparing for Emergencies.” It will cover making a kit of supplies for
family members; developing a plan for communication and evacuation, and
learning about the most likely types of disasters and emergencies that

New era to combat climate change announced
- NEW YORK - Governor David Paterson Thursday opened the
nation’s first-ever auction of carbon dioxide allowances when he rang
the ceremonial bell at the New York Mercantile Exchange in Manhattan,
and by doing so launched the nation’s most serious initiative yet to
reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. New York and nine other Northeast
and Mid-Atlantic states have come together to launch the Regional
Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a mandatory program that covers more than 200
fossil fuel power plants, requiring the owners of those plants pay for

DEC grants available for eradication of invasive species
- ALBANY – New York State Department of Environmental Conservation
Commissioner Pete Grannis Thursday announced that grant applications are
now being accepted for projects proposing to eradicate terrestrial
invasive species. Terrestrial invasive species is defined as a plant or
animal that lives or grows predominately on land. Applications will be

at risk - The number of fish species threatened by pollution, invasive

EPA sets rules for lawn, boat engines Most non-road motors will be
required to add catalytic converters to significantly reduce emissions.
David Shepardson / Detroit News Washington Bureau WASHINGTON -- The
Environmental Protection Agency unveiled sweeping regulations limiting
emissions from small engines in lawn mowers and boats Thursday --
requiring that most small engines have catalytic converters. The new
regulation applies to lawn mowers with a 25-horsepower engine or smaller
and will reduce smog-forming emissions by 35 percent. Recreational boats
will see a 70 percent reduction in evaporated fuel and NOx emissions.

Nearly $4.5 million to improve habitat for brook trout in
seven Northeast Region states -The Service
will provide $450,000 in aid, an amount matched nearly ten times over by
contributions from conservation partners, to improve conditions for
